Ample Cottages offer a selection of large self catering cottages and large holiday homes throughout Scotland. We have personally inspected all of the accommodation rentals listed on this site, so you can be assured that all of them are accurately described.
From our base at Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland we have been offering first class self catering accommodation since 1993 and now, through Ample Cottages, offer a super selection of larger than average cottages, houses, apartments and lodges, most suitable for groups and extended family holidays, but also of course for those wanting more space and preferring a larger property.
All of the self catering properties have up to date availability calendars and can be booked online through the Wilderness Cottages booking system. You will be directed to the calendars when clicking on the "Book Online" buttons.

There are lots of advantages to self catering which apply not only to the smaller party, but also the larger – to some extent more so if you are holidaying in a group. Large properties are ideal for that special family get together, it maybe a special birthday or anniversary or you may want to holiday as a group to pursue a common interest – fishing, photography, bird watching, walking etc. What would be better than spending some quality time with your family or friends in a property large enough to accommodate you all.
We have a small selection of larger properties sleeping 8-20+, we also have a number of cottages/apartment within walking distance of each other. Ideal if you want to holiday in a large group but would like an element of privacy, we all like to have a little space sometimes. We find that larger parties bringing grandparents find this set up far more suitable, they love to see the grandchildren but at the end of a busy day a little time on their own is just what they need. Obviously if you booked our biggest property Foyers Lodge, they would always find a quiet space.
Staying in a hotel can be extremely expensive and you don’t really get the freedom you experience when self catering. You might prefer to take a late breakfast or brunch, not always possible in a hotel, when self catering you decide when to eat. Your budget may determine if you prefer to eat in or out, you might even want to get caters in. Self catering holidays hold no time restraints you are free to come and go as you please and make the most of the facilities available.
Scotland makes an ideal destination for a self catering holiday with so many things to see and do. For this reason it is particularly appealing to larger groups as it offers something for all whatever their interests. The sheer variety of Scotland’s natural landscapes is sure to impress any visitor whether it be a dramatic coastline, a heather clan moor, a tranquil glen or a snow clad mountain in the Cairngorms.
Scotland offers a land of adventure, history, whisky, salmon rivers and lochs, ancient Caledonian pine forests and secluded beaches, all of this is home to some of the best wildlife to be seen. This wildlife includes stunning birds of prey such as - Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles, Osprey, Red Kite along with the smaller less seen birds, like the Scottish Crossbill and Crested Tit. The marine life includes Bottle-nosed Dolphins, Minke Whales and Seals whilst the mammal population ranges from Red Deer, Pine Marten, Red Squirrel, Otter to the elusive wild cat.
Each area of Scotland offers the visitor a different experience. The Cairngorms National Park can offer extreme sports, like ice climbing, gorge walking, Munro bagging, skiing and snow boarding, whilst the Northern Highlands offers magnificent deserted sandy beach great for a gentle stroll. Throughout Scotland you can also enjoy walking on moorland or waymarked tracks through forests or local village trails. Visitors can also enjoy a round of golf on one of the many superb golf courses or relax with a spot of river or loch fishing. Whatever your pastime it can be enjoyed here. So with such a wealth of things to see and do you will always find something new to discover on a self catering holiday in Scotland.
