Moat House 6 - Fort Augustus Abbey - Self catering apartment Loch Ness - Sleeps 4 (plus 1)

This unique Highland self catering apartment is situated on the top floor of the Moat House, a short walk from the centre of the picturesque village of Fort Augustus, which by the way is the geographical centre of the Highlands. Understandably, given its superb setting in this central location, Fort Augustus is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Highlands. Through the village runs the River Oich and the Caledonian canal and lock system, which was built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800's. Restaurants, bars and shops are all available in the village. Enjoy a drink sitting on the Lock side watching commercial and pleasure boats making their way through the locks on their way to Inverness and Fort William Set in the original Moat House, the apartment is situated on the top (second) floor of the building, so is not suitable for disabled visitors.

Fort Augustus Abbey is a magnificent building which stands in 20 acres of beautifully maintained garden grounds at the southern end of Loch Ness and which, until recently, was a monastery run by Saint Benedict monks.

The accommodation is warm and cosy throughout the year and is an ideal retreat for those wanting to spend some quality time walking and relaxing and for quietly enjoying the refined and relaxed atmosphere of this historic Abbey. It is close to the Great Glen cycle way and many miles of forest walks with many forest and hill walks from the doorstep. The proximity to attractions also makes this a favourite destination for young families, with Fort William (Ben Nevis) and Inverness only an hour away by car. The West coast is also only a little over an hours drive.

Some things people have said about Moat House 6 - Abbey recently.

We have just got back from a week at Moat House no6 Fort Augustus Abbey. It was an absolutely lovely place to be. The apartment was really spacious, equipped and very warm. The Abbey is lovely and on the shores of Loch Ness it was really nice to be there. Lots of forest walks and places to visit, Urquhart castle is a must, Nevis Range I wasn't keen on, maybe better in summer. Inverness, Fort William are nice. All in all a lovely chilled time had and our 17year boy loved the snooker room, well worth the long drive

This has been an extraordinary stay. Have you ever lived in an Abbey? Best view over Loch Ness, quiet, peaceful location, well equipped, high standard, historical atmosphere. Something we will never forget.

Andy & Lynda Tuttle

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Abbey. We were very busy through most of our days, visiting all the sights, none of which were far away, (we had our car with us) and were most grateful for the comfort of Moat House No 6 in the evenings. Everything we required was there and more, including gumboots and umbrellas! The children were pleased to see the collection of videos and the view over the grounds was lovely. We live in Australia, but when we return, we’ll definitely return to the Abbey.

Thank you for the wonderful holiday. Our only regret was that we shud have kept Fort Augustus as our main holiday. Lake District seemed pretty average after the Scotland experience.
Moat House No 6 was absolutely wonderful.
The detailing left us really overwhelmed. We’ve stayed at self-catering places before but the detailing here was something else. It was really better than a home away from home becoz even at home one misses out on some things. Our boys loved the movie collection and every evening we saw a classic followed by Monopoly.
The Abbey is a Beautiful place, ideally loctaed, structurally beautiful - an ideal blend of tradition and modernity.
