Monastery 8 the Paterson Apartment is situated on the shores of world famous Loch Ness. It is a well appointed apartment in the beautifully converted Benedictine Monastery, which is set within around 20 acres of maintained private grounds. It is on the first floor of the Monastery, which is the largest of all the buildings in the abbey and is loch facing. The entrance to the apartment is through the court of arches - this is where four corridors meet in the cloisters and the massive support columns were built for housing the monastic bell tower. This is an ideal retreat for those wanting to spend some quality time just unwinding and enjoying the refined and relaxed atmosphere of this historic Abbey. The apartment is double aspect and looks out over the terraced Monastery lawn with panoramic views towards Loch Ness on one side and over the beautiful cloister garden on the other.

The Abbey, the oldest building in Fort Augustus, is built on the site of an old Hanovarian fort named after William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, and the original foundations still form part of the buildings today. It was more recently a school, run by the monks, but it was closed some years ago due to financial pressures when, finally, the Monks closed the Abbey as a place of worship and the buildings were sold. Now, Fort Augustus Abbey, a Grade A listed building, has been painstakingly and tastefully renovated and converted into luxury apartment accommodation.

The loch side village of Fort Augustus is only a few minutes walk from the apartment and ideally situated for touring the Highlands and Islands and is a very popular holiday destination. Fort William, Isle of Skye and Inverness - all are within an hour's drive from your accommodation.   The village offers visitors a variety of restaurants and bars along with a small supermarket and a post office. The Caledonian Canal runs through the village and many an hour can be spent just watching the boats going through the locks on their way to and from Loch Ness, or you can take a trip on Loch Ness and do a spot of “Nessie” hunting. The Great Glen cycle route passes through the village so you may wish to bring your bikes or you can hire some locally.  There is also plenty of opportunity to do some walking in the local area or around Loch Ness.

Monastery 8 receives lots of natural light, has wonderful views of Loch Ness and is well proportioned and comfortably furnished throughout to best satisfy and enhance your holiday experience, regardless of external factors like the weather. When the weather here is kind, it is simply heaven on earth and when it is not so kind, Loch Ness oozes with an atmosphere and mystery that is hard to find anywhere else on earth.

• This large room has lovely original sash windows with stunning views over the grounds towards Loch Ness. Dining table for 6. The lounge area has two sofas and two tub chairs. Flat screen TV, DVD player and CD micro-system.

Kitchen

• The separate kitchen is fully fitted with modern units and granite worktops and includes electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, microwave and all the usual cooking utensils. Breakfast table for 4.

Bedrooms

• Master bedroom, overlooking the cloister garden, has a king size bed and an en-suite bathroom, with black granite vanity surface, slate flooring and large mirror, including shower, bath, wash hand basin and toilet. There is also a small dressing area and access to the en-suite from the hallway.
• Twin bedroom, also overlooking cloister garden. Bathroom across hallway with bath, wash hand basin, toilet and small dressing area.
• Full gas central heating.

Other facilties available

Tennis court, croquet, table tennis, giant chess, boules and other activities are available within the grounds of the Abbey. The Monastery lawn, with loch-side barbecue area and seating, is just a few short steps from the apartment. The Boathouse Restaurant, on the shore of Loch Ness, is on site just a few minutes, walk from your apartment (please contact the restaurant direct for opening times - 01320 366682) and the luxurious Club Lounge with billiards table, wireless internet access and comfortable seating is at the other end of the cloister walk.

Please note. Renovation work on other buildings may be in progress during your stay. As the Monastery itself is completely finished, you should not be inconvenienced, although this can not be guaranteed.  The prices for the apartment have been set to take the building work into consideration.
