Clunemore Steadings is a unique property converted from an original barn by the present owner. The conversation has retained some of the original features of the barn, and its unique interior makes it slightly different from the more traditional type of holiday accomodation available. Guests will find that the unusual layout provides ample and comfortable accomodation to enjoy this part of Scotland. The position of the property allows you to take in the views from its elevated position. The property also has the added advantage of being situated in 600 acres of moorland, which guests are free to explore further, either by foot or by mountain bike.
Within a short drive are some of the most beautiful glens in Scotland. Glen Affric has been declared a National Nature reserve and you will have the chance to see a variety of wildlife, which could include Osprey, Golden Eagles, Capercaillie, Ptarimagan, Badgers, Otters, Pine martens and of course all species of deer, along with many smaller birds that could include Crossbills and Crested tits. If you visit Glen Cannich or Strathfarrar you will begin to understand the meaning of ‘remote’.
Glen Strathfarrar with its large area of ancient Caledonian pine forest and huge population of red deer continues the wildlife spotting opportunities while Glen Cannich boasts one of the largest dams and rugged scenery. All three glens offer the walker numerous choices from forest trails to more strenuous munros. Nearby Reelig Glen with Britain’s tallest tree and Abriachan community wood, with feature forest trails offer alternative walking experiences.
Loch Ness and the villages of Lewiston and Drumnadrochit are a short drive, here you can visit the famous Loch Ness monster exhibition. The villages also offer several eating places and bars as well as a post office and general store. Worth a visit is the Loch Ness Inn at Lewiston, it uses the best local ingredients in its tempting dishes, for foodies in the know, the Inn is associated with the Applecross Inn on the west coast of Scotland. Riding is available in the village and for walkers the Great Glen way runs through here. Boat trips are available on Loch Ness and whilst in the area a visit to Urquhart Castle is recommended, here you can find out about the history of the Castle and visit the vistors centre and restaurant. The various viewpoints around the castle grounds, makes it an ideal place to take some photographs of this world famous Loch and perhaps catch a glimpse of its legendary monster.
Clunemore is also ideally situated for touring the highlands or the west coast of Scotland. The Isle of Skye is easily reached within a couple of hours, a trip to here makes a fantastic day out, en-route you'll pass Eilean Donan Castle, this is one of the most iconic landmarks of this part of Scotland and is always worth a visit. Skye itself offers the most spectacular scenery, the ever changing weather making the scenery and light unique.
Back on the mainland the area around Torridon and the Applecross Penisula are worth visiting, the Bealach Na Ba or the 'pass of the Cattle' as it is known, is the highest road in the United Kingdom, the drive over the top is not for the faint hearted but worth the drive to see the dramatic scenery from the top.
